Mix & Genest was founded on 1 October 1879 by the businessman Wilhelm Mix and the engineer Werner Genest in Berlin-Schöneberg. The company was initially an 1879 branch of the ITT Corporation. It was very successful and became one of the pioneers in low voltage devices. Among the products were devices for telephony and telegraphy. By 1904 the company had already 2300 employees and subsidiaries in London and Amsterdam. In 1920 AEG bought the majority of the stock shares. Mix & Genest was acquired by the ITT Corporation in 1930. The name Mix & Genest was dropped in 1958.

Mix & Genest war ein deutscher Hersteller von Elektronik, der sich schon kurz nach dessen Erfindung auf das Telefon und die Vermittlungsstellentechnik konzentrierte. Das 1879 vom Ingenieur Werner Genest mit dem Kaufmann Wilhelm Mix in Berlin-Schöneberg als oHG Mix & Genest, Telegraphenbau-Anstalt und Telegraphendraht-Fabrik gegründete Unternehmen entwickelte sich von einer Werkstatt sehr schnell zu einem Großunternehmen und gilt bis heute als Pionier auf dem Gebiet der Schwachstromtechnik und der Signalübermittlung. Nach der Jahrhundertwende war Mix & Genest auch als Hersteller von Rohrpost- und Förderanlagen weltweit bekannt. Die Gesellschaft wandelte sich 1889 in eine Aktiengesellschaft und wurde 1920 durch einen Aktienstausch von der Allgemeinen Elektricitäts-Gesellschaft (AEG) übernommen. 1929 übertrug AEG das Unternehmen auf die Holding Standard Elektrizitäts-Gesellschaft AG (SEG), welche zunächst teilweise, ab 1934 schließlich vollständig zur amerikanischen International Telephone and Telegraph Corporation (ITT) gehörte.
